Super Metro to Launch SuperGo Taxis to Rival Global Ride-Hailing Apps

Matatu giant Super Metro Sacco has announced plans to launch a new digital taxi-hailing service dubbed SuperGo Taxis, in a move set to rival global operators such as Uber and Bolt.

In a notice shared on social media on Monday, October 13, the company unveiled a banner featuring the new service, accompanied by the slogan: “When the ride's on time, the mood stays prime. We move joyfully.”

Although Super Metro did not disclose the official launch date, the announcement was met with excitement from its loyal customer base.

The sacco, which operates over 500 buses and ferries more than 170,000 commuters daily, has established itself as one of the most trusted matatu operators in Nairobi. With SuperGo, the company seeks to tap into its strong brand reputation to enter Kenya’s booming ride-hailing market.

The development comes at a time when global ride-hailing firms are grappling with discontent among drivers over pricing models, opening a gap for new entrants.

A 2019 study found that 86% of Nairobi residents owned a smartphone, while 58% had used ride-hailing apps, underscoring the city’s appetite for digital transport solutions.

Super Metro is the first matatu sacco in Kenya to make the leap into the taxi-hailing space. Beyond its popular stage-to-stage services, the company has already diversified into parcel and courier delivery, charter services, and even an insurance agency.

Currently, Super Metro operates from 18 stages across Nairobi and beyond, including CBD, Kikuyu, Ngong, Roysambu, Kitengela, Thika, Juja, Kinoo, Kahawa West, and Makongeni. It also runs the Super Metro Executive Coach on the Nairobi–Kampala route.

With the upcoming launch of SuperGo Taxis, transport analysts say commuters may finally have a homegrown alternative in a market long dominated by international companies
