The CS’s directive comes after former DP Rigathi Gachagua accused President William Ruto of allegedly meeting with Al-Shabaab militia leaders during his trip to Mandera County.
Murkomen accused Gachagua of tarnishing Kenya’s image during his visit to the US, claiming he treated serious security concerns as a joke.
The Interior boss stated that Gachagua’s conduct has been deeply embarrassing, raising doubts about how he ever rose to the position of Deputy President.
“How did such a person ever get a chance to become the Deputy President of Kenya? It is just unbelievable. We must carry ourselves with the level of responsibility deserved when holding public office,” Murkomen stated.
Speaking at the same event, current DP Kithure Kindiki called on the relevant authorities to ensure that his predecessor records a statement over the remarks he termed damning to the country’s security.
“We therefore want to ask the relevant authorities to make sure that the people who claim to have information on terrorists and criminals are held accountable and record their statements so that they can assist in investigations,” Kindiki said.
Previously, Mandera Senator Ali Roba had also called on the DCI to apprehend the former DP over the remarks, saying that Gachagua's sentiments were a desperate attempt to mislead the public for cheap political mileage.
Gachagua has been in the US since July 9, as part of a planned two-month tour aimed at engaging with Kenyans in the diaspora and international stakeholders.
